UT2007 Renamed To Unreal Tournament III!!!

Punching home a message that Midway is coming to the next-generation with a full stable of goods, the Chicago-based publisher today announced that the game formerly known as Unreal Tournament 2007 is now Unreal Tournament 3. And it’s coming to the PC, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 in the second half of 2007. Using the Unreal Engine 3 (what other engine would it really use?), Epic’s seminal first-person shooter will douse gamers with gorgeous, life-like graphics, arm them with unbelievable futuristic and brutal weaponry, and hurl them into online deathmatches like never before.

Run and gun (and swear like a sailor) like never before in UT3.
The new game comprises a vast number of changes from increased aggressiveness and intelligence in the AI to better, more ridiculously powerful weapons to new characters, game modes, and online improvements. New weapons are highlighted by the long-range Shock Rifle and the shorter range Flack Cannon, and more than two dozen weapons will be ready to wield when UT3 is ready in the second half of 2007.
The new single-player campaign is deeper and more engaging than before, and players will be happy to know that old favorite characters have returned and are joined by several new ones. Epic plans to provide advanced online changes to suit all three platforms, bringing seamless loading, improved matchmaking and co-operative campaign online play. Yes, cooperative online play indeed. Familiar online modes such as Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag will be joined by an all-new Warfare mode among others. And PC gamers will be happy to get their sweaty mitts on the bundled Unreal Engine Toolset, enabling them to build their own levels, game types, rules, mods, and more.

Test Drive Unlimited Developer Diary II!!

We’re back with another great installment of what’s coming up in Test Drive Unlimited…are you ready? Are you sure?

Introducing…HARDCORE MODE.

Hardcore Mode as of now will be available at the PC launch, and later as a 360 download as “Patch 3″ on Xbox Live. It’s just wrapping up QA testing at Atari, and we expect to release it very soon, though I can’t give you a final date on it just yet.

However, what I will go into detail about what to expect from this awesome addition to Test Drive Unlimited.

Basically, Hardcore Mode becomes available to enthusiasts after they reach “Champion” status – it appears after the start game screen as an additional entry (besides “New Game” and “Continue.”) If selected, the program will run down the specifics, which will include:

  • Physics handlingThis means the handling goes “ultra realistic” and is more demanding. Increased breaking distances occur and the driver is left with less anti-drift assistance. You’ll need to be on your top game to drive all of your cars this way!
  • Telemetry Players will have the option to activate Telemetry with the D-Pad to follow accurately how far (or too far) to push the car
  • Free Ride AlternativePlayers in Free-Ride will have the option to display a small icon next to their screen name to indicate their current driving mode
  • Multiplayer Challenge Additions If selected, players will only meet other players in Hardcore Mode too.
  • Solo Challenge Option Solo challenges will NOT be accessible in this mode.

So that’s the rundown of what’s coming – we have received a ton of feedback from the players and have answered a lot of the requests (and demands!) with these options. Overall this is going to push drivers that much further to hone their skills and create even more worlds and challenges for enthusiasts to explore. We also wanted to make sure our that we communicated to our fan base that we definitely hear you and are working tirelessly to make the Test Drive Unlimited world bigger, bolder and on demand. We’re excited to release it and plan on doing so very soon, so be on the lookout!

Crysis: We Get To Know This Killer Game!!!

Crysis is running on Vista and DirectX 10 here at the show. There are currently 10 levels in the game and each will have multiple missions and side missions, some of which are optional. Optional missions will usually reward you with extra weapons or ammo. The goal of the level being shown today is to clear a village occupied by North Korean soldiers. Once you eliminate the soldiers, a helicopter will attack and you’ll need to find some heavier firepower.

The video shows some of the modes available with your nanosuit. There are four modes in all: cloak, armor, speed, and strength. Cloak is an active camouflage that adapts to the color of your surroundings — walk through tall grass and it will turn green, head to the shadows and it turns grey. Strength mode allows you to pick up objects in the environment, including some large items like garbage dumpsters and vehicles, and toss them at enemies. You’ll also be able to jump to great heights when strength mode is activated. Speed accelerates your movement and allows you to jump long distances. Armor mode raises your defense and heals you over time.

Along with your health meter at the bottom right of the screen, there is also an energy meter. Using any of your nanosuit’s special modes spends energy, and if it runs out you’ll lose the ability until your energy replenishes. The modes can be mapped to hot keys, so you can switch from one to the other rather quickly.

Much has been made of the physics in Crysis, and we saw more examples of this impressive technology today. Smoke behaves realistically, as does the wind, so you’ll see plumes of smoke being carried away in the same direction tree branches are bending. Flames will spread if they are near flammable materials. Crytek also told us the game will include extreme weather conditions such as tornados, rain, and snow storms.

Multiplayer wasn’t being shown at the event, but after we got one of the Crytek guys in a headlock he told us a few details about the multiplayer experience. The game will support up to 32 players in two modes: Deathmatch and Power Struggle. Power Struggle divides players into two teams, each with a base such as a submarine or aircraft. Once you capture a factory you can start manufacturing weapons and vehicles. The goal is to destroy your enemies’ base, but to do so you’ll need to develop a secret weapon and Crytek isn’t saying what it is, yet.

Crysis looks and feels great, but the level being shown today was very short. The five-minutes of video footage we posted is really all there was to see. But that only makes us more excited for the game, and we look forward to more play time as it nears its Q2 2007 release.

>>>>To be introduced runnig with direct x 10, new physics, showing new effects…..looking everytime more real…..that’s what gamers want, realist games, and Crysis is  Showing That…with perfect grafics!

Halo 2 Multiplayer Hands-On!

Halo 2 arrives on the PC this year, and we had a chance to try out some of the multiplayer gameplay.

LAS VEGAS–Halo 2 may seem old news to Xbox fans, but the blockbuster first-person shooter will finally arrive on the PC this year, and Microsoft is letting teams battle one another in some Halo 2 multiplayer action at the Consumer Electronics Show. The game is currently running on eight PCs, and attendees can engage in some virtual combat using either the mouse and keyboard or an Xbox 360 controller.

The level that we played was the sanctuary level, which many Halo 2 fans are familiar with on the Xbox. Sanctuary features the remains of an ancient temple and an outdoor environment with waterfalls. The game mode was slayer, or basically deathmatch, and the goal is to rack us as many kills as possible before time runs out.

In terms of geometry, the Windows version of the level looked identical to the Xbox version, but there are a number of graphical improvements in the PC version. For one, the game can run at a much higher resolution than it can on the Xbox. This coupled with the higher-resolution textures make for a cleaner and crisper look to the entire game. Character models also looked a lot better because you can discern a lot more detail on the standard Master Chief character model.

The control scheme has been adapted to the standard keyboard-and-mouse setup used by most PC shooters. Character movement is controlled by the W, A, S, and D keys, while the mouse is used to look around and attack. The left mouse button fires the weapon in hand while the right mouse button is used to toss grenades. In the case that you are dual-wielding a gun in each hand, the left mouse button fires the left weapon and the right mouse button fires the right. The F key can be used to melee attack an opponent.

While some PC fans may scoff at getting a port of a console game more than two years after it was originally released for the Xbox, the fact remains that the PC version of the original Halo sold very well. Fans of the Halo series will be happy to know that the PC version of Halo 2 is shaping up well, and it’s scheduled to ship this year.

FlatOut 2 Passes 500,000 Gamers Mark!

Half a million gamers have gotten behind the wheel in this racer.

The sequel to 2005′s destructive racing game, FlatOut 2 has sold more than 500,000 copies since its release last August on PlayStation 2, PC, and Xbox.

Developed by Bugbear Entertainment, IGN picked FlatOut 2 as the best PS2 racing game of 2006. Apparently, consumers share our enthusiasm for this combination of racing and destruction derbies.

“Being chosen as the best racing game of 2006 by two of the most popular game medias was a truly outstanding moment for everybody at Bugbear,” says Jussi Laakkonen, business development director at Bugbear. “We didn’t expect the accolades as we were going against a number of really great driving games. When the results were published, it felt exceptional. It felt like a real victory!”

US Wii sales beat 1.2m estimate

Illustration   While PS3 may have only shifted 700,000 units.

The Nintendo Wii has likely sold over 1.2 million units in the US, beating previous estimates by analyst Lazard Capital. Sony’s rival PlayStation 3 will have sold around 700,000 units in 2006, while the company predicts that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 will have reached 4.5 million consoles in North America, by December 30th. “Our checks indicate that Nintendo’s Wii console continues to sell well, while Sony’s PS3 supplies improved somewhat towards the end of the holiday period,” said Colin Sebastian of Lazard Capital. The firm also said it expects that US software sales will have increased by five per cent in December, compared to last year, “driven by incremental sales for next-generation software and ongoing solid PS2 and DS game sales.” The analyst also offered a list of best-selling titles, including four of GameStop’s top five sellers for Christmas – Guitar Hero 2, WWE Smackdown Vs RAW 2007, Gears of War and Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess. Finally, Sebastian predicted three publisher’s performance in December, expecting THQ to see sales up by 20 per cent, EA to suffer a dip of 10 per cent and Activision’s results to remain equal to the 2005 period.
